About

This is where i tell you a little, or a lot, about myself and my art. Like many artists, I don't say very much in person about my work, but hope my work speaks for itself.

However, as this is about me...here goes.
I live and work in Dorset, and having moved quite a lot over the years have settled (for now) in a tiny village nestled in a beautiful part of the county. I am lucky to be surrounded by wonderful fresh air and breathtaking countryside.

I have always loved art and painting and while at school set my sights on becoming an artist. Sadly the career teacher at school was baffled by such a choice....'Had I not thought of a secretarial position, or perhaps a hotel receptionist?' They had obviously overlooked the fact that I couldn't type and had no office skills to offer anyone (this sorry tale will reverberate with many of my age).

I took myself off to college and a career in hair and beauty. Many years passed and I then retrained to become an English teacher and travelled overseas to enjoy a time in Russia, then to spend a further year in Mexico before returning to the UK.
I had previously spent some of my free time taking courses at the wonderful Art Institute in Bournemouth, adding to my skills with paper/paints/pencils etc etc.
By 2005 I took a leap of faith and left my relatively secure position in teaching and headed off to teach Art and Crafts and silver work to others. My venture was short lived, but I was lucky to find a Gallery (Quarr Gallery in Swanage) who liked my work enough to sell it for me, and i have been successfully filling their walls ever since....

I quickly discovered that my Old Couple were firm favourites, and they reflect days out which are very familiar to myself and my hubby. We go everywhere with a flask and a pack of sandwiches....my husband has had a plethora of 'old' cars...some might be classified as Classic, others just old.

We have shared our lives with a variety of rescue and rehoused dogs....the little white one, Charlie Biscuit, can be seen in many of my paintings. Sadly he left us a couple of years ago, leaving a huge hole in our lives, but he is survived by his rival Rosie who is not quite as photogenic as Charlie, so his legacy lives on through my paintings.

I am now taking my Old Couple to other places. They are to be found fossil hunting in Charmouth, picnicking in Bridport and crossing rivers in Exmoor. Continue watching as they take themselves, their trusty car and their tiny caravan to different locations.

My work can be found in Quarr Gallery, Swanage and Polly Skye, Lynton.
